Zodiac-Mi (snake)

As the celestial Dragon makes way for the earthly Snake. We are happy to share that ‘Mi’ is now ready for order.
Since 2020, we started the HANABI collaboration with renowned Japanese craft studio, 5th Generation Seiun Souemon Hara to make a small series of bronze sculptures based on the Chinese zodiac animals.

Each piece is personally made by master craftsman Satoshi Hara and his wife Yoshiko Hara at their ancestral home and atelier in Kashiwazaki. From hand sculpting with bee wax to molding, casting, polishing and also the special smoking technique to achieve the charred effect on the body.

The craft of the Hara family is created by the wisdom and ambition of their ancestors to add value to life and contribute back to the rich nature of Japan. It was designated as an Intangible Cultural Property by the prefecture in 1978. Due to the nature of the craft, organic process and material, each object produced is unique and ages beautifully over generations.

The Year of the Wood Snake stands for growth, flexibility and new possibilities.
Hara san has incorporated the idea into the design of the sculpture, with the coiling body of the snake representing vitality and change. It promises a year of good blessings, fortunes and prosperity around us.
