Satoshi Hara & Yoshiko Hara are the leading artisan of the 5th generation Seiun Souemon Hara.

Created by the wisdom our their ancestors to increase the value of life and rich nature of Japan, Seiun Souemon Hara's bronze casting technique was designated as an Intangible Cultural Property by the prefecture in 1978, and is still being mastered today. No identical pattern can be recreated due to the natural process. The surface becomes more beautiful over time, making the product appreciable by generations of users.

This hand-made sculpture called ‘Ne’ (short from the Japanese term for rat/ mouse- Nezumi). This was the first time Hara-san has created an original design and object based on the Chinese horoscope animals, starting with this year of the Rat (he hope to make the whole series of animals year by year). We were ecstatic, holding and touching ‘Ne’. We love the texture of the bronze surface casted at high temperature and hand polished. It even has a hint of the smoked scent of longan and pine if you hold it close and smell it.

Hara-san enthusiastically offered to make a small batch of 20 pieces exclusively for outside Japan.

We hope that the new year of the Rat will bring great things we treasure into our homes.
